[Drama Review] 'Emergency Couple' - Episode 15

EMERGENCY COUPLE EPISODE 15

We open with Chang Min singing that tender song to Jin Hee. At least the song is subbed this time, though I'm still not sure why it brought a tear to Jin Hee's eye. Hardly the reaction of someone who just last episode said she "detested" him. Well, whatever; the party breaks up after that and everything goes south in this episode.

Chang Min takes Yong Gyu home as he's really drunk and Yong Gyu asks him why he'd want someone who was divorced. Which really makes me wonder: why is it so bad to be with someone who is divorced? There seems to be comparatively little baggage with divorcees other than they likely despise their ex. I would think that a better question would be, "Does she have kids?" because that changes the whole family dynamic; other questions like "Does she want a parent for her kid?" and "What is my role in this family" would be valid ones.

If anything, Yong Gyu seems to be getting even worse. His confidence is so shaken he can't find a heartbeat with his stethoscope - he sweats and and his hands tremble. The mistake with the patient in the last episode has him completely rattled. He tries to request a vacation to settle his nerves and gets chewed out for it. That can't be good for his nerves or his confidence. They almost seem to lean towards having him quit, which would be a shame. His antics in previous episodes have been extremely laugh-worthy.

Chang Min has it bad for Jin Hee, but he keeps a respectful distance from her like he promised. Except I don't remember him saying "I'll ignore you," but that's what happens through most of the episode. They pass each other without a word and sit at different tables at lunch time. He goes home to an empty apartment and everything he does there reminds him of time spent recently with Jin Hee. At the end, when his father is dying, who does he have to turn to but Jin Hee

The mother-fight was an absolute riot. They should have sold tickets to this event and put it on Pay-Per-View. Jin Hee's mother (Yang Ja) and Sung Sook both show up at the hospital to talk to their progeny. They both end up in the office of Chief Guk and start a big row. The initial shock of seeing each other wears off, but things escalate quickly. The screaming match was well done - one person would say something, the other would have a sharp retort, and they'd scream at each other. When it would die down, Sung Sook or Yang Ja would start it up again. When they had to be pulled apart at the end, Chang Min ends up literally carrying his mother off. The sad thing is that it could have been avoided had they simply been respectful to each other. I'm not sure if that's expecting too much. I think Yang Jacould totally take Sung Sook in a fight. Just sayin' ;)

Ji Hye and Dr. Guk make a great couple, I think. They obviously have a history together, and I think that Ji Hye should pursue him. They're both no-nonsense types, both administrative staffers, and they understand the pressures of hospital life. They can console each other more effectively than an outsider might.  Ji Hye has one great advantage over Jin Hee in this situation: she gets him. She would act as a foil for his emotional unavailability and coax the snail out of its shell - at least for a little while.

I think the death of Chang Min's father would be unnecessary. I can't say for certain what purpose it would serve. There would be even less of a shield for his family's manipulation. He represents a quiet dignity and decency in Chang Min's family tree. I'm hoping there is something they can do to save him. Maybe his death will cause a ripple effect and something positive may come out of it, though. The timing would sure be bad: Chang Min's birthday. Now, every birthday for the rest of his life, he would mourn his father's passing.

This episode really was dark. Here's hoping future episodes will have a positive outlook!  Where do you guys think this is going? Let us know below!
