‘Running Man’ pokes fun at Olympics fencing controversy

SBS‘s Running Man was the latest show to make a sideways swipe at the 2012 London Olympics’ alleged mistaken ruling over the fencing match involving South Korean fencer Shin Ah Lam.
In the beginning of the episode, the show aired a brief segment detailing what had happened during the last week. With the caption “Superpowers exist?” the show parodied the several mistakes that the Olympic judges had allegedly made, giving them the titles of “The one with the power to stop time” and“The one who can see what high-speed cameras fail to see”.
Shin Ah Lam had missed out on an opportunity to win a medal when the timer accidentally stopped with one second left on the clock, during which her opponent took the chance to hit her multiple times.
Other shows, such as ‘Gag Concert‘ and ‘Infinity Challenge’, had also poked fun at the incident.

Han Ji Min makes her entrance on ‘Running Man’

The latest episode of SBS‘s Running Man featured the beautiful actress, Han Ji Min, as they competed to win on picturesque Jeju island. The cast played their way through a variety of games and explored their beautiful surroundings.
During the final competition, everyone competed to win what was left of the money they had been issued prior to starting the race, and which they could’ve spent on various items during the course of the day.
In the final round, four people eventually remained – Han Ji Min and HaHa, and Lee Kwang Soo and Ji Suk Jin.
After Lee Kwang Soo succeeded in ripping off HaHa’s nametag, the two remaining members of the Red Team ganged up on Han Ji Min. Although she struggled against the opposing side, her nametag was eventually torn off and the Red Team celebrated her victory.
Han Ji Min tried to get solace, saying “I came out here, let me try ripping a nametag”, expressing her disappointment at the loss. The Red Team allowed her to rip their nametags – but  in a dramatic reveral, Han Ji Min revealed that she had purchased another nametag in secret. Thanks to her superb acting abilities, she grabbed the final trophy on this episode of ‘Running Man’.

T-ara’s controversy becomes an issue of hot topic among parents of students

T-ara‘s controversy is no longer just an issue within the music industry, as various communities administered by the parents of students have come forward with their expressions of anger and concern over the girls’ influence towards society.
The fact that the controversy included two major societal issues of bullying and ostracization have brought attention from not only entertainment industry officials and K-Pop fans, but also school parents who feel that the issue is a reflection of the current state in schools.
One community for school parents has seen over 150 posts on the issue from concerned parents voicing their opinions. Many left comments like, “We cannot consider T-ara’s controversy as just an issue within idol groups. I firmly believe that if influential idols who have a history of bullying on public platforms like social networking services are allowed on TV, that it will affect the character education of our children,” “We cannot teach our children that having a reason for bullying does not make it okay,” “The T-ara controversy is a minimized version of the current state of our children’s schools,” and “The gravity of the situation must be recognized, as they are a highly popular group with much influence on today’s youth that has committed the act of bullying, a severe issue in today’s society.”
Another father of two children came forward with a neutral opinion, commenting, “We don’t know who’s speaking the truth at this moment. If one of my daughters was a member of T-ara and was receiving this much hate without any of the truth revealed, I don’t think I would feel good as a parent.” His opinion was shot down, however, by many others retorting, “There is enough evidence that bullying did indeed occur,” and “Your stance is no different from schools that try to cover issues of bullying and ostracization because it’s simply ‘a headache to deal with.’”
