KARA’s Gyuri to give a lecture on pursuing a celebrity career

On May 7th, KARA’s Gyuri will be giving an hour-long lecture at Seo Woon High School in Incheon.

The idol was invited to speak because of a survey which asked Seo Woon High School’s students to name their #1 career choice; overwhelmingly, they all replied that they hoped to become celebrities.

As a senior in the industry, Gyuri will be giving a lecture and answering any questions they may have before jumping into it.

DSP Media revealed that she’ll be putting her full experience out there in order to give the students realistic help, as well as pinpointing the positives and negatives of the career.

Gyuri commented, “I was first recommended for the lecture through my professor, and I rejected it because I didn’t think I was someone worthy to give a lecture on the topic. I decided to change my mind when I realized that I had my mother to ask for advice while I was contemplating the career, but that these students probably didn’t. It must be so daunting for them, so I changed my mind. I hope that I’ll be able to help them in some way.”

KBS’s “Music Bank” is favorite music show for singers, producers, and international viewers

Korea houses a considerable number of live music programs, including one each from MBC, SBS, KBS,cable channel Mnet, and more recently, MTV. In this Hallyu age, however, the program that’s been receiving the most attention is KBS’s “Music Bank.”

Why is that?

“Music Bank” currently airs in 54 different broadcast networks around the world, and come July, the number will increase to 76. Japan, South East Asia, Europe, and even South America has access toKBS World.

One idol singer manager commented, “When we perform on ‘Music Bank’, we begin to receive performance requests from countries that we’ve never even been to, let alone would have the opportunity to visit. There’s no better age than now to feel the power of K-pop, and ‘Music Bank’ acts as that medium in effectively promoting artists internationally.”

The show’s ‘K-Chart’ ranking is also one of much interest amongst music producers and distributors, since it incorporates digital, viewer preference, album sales, and number of broadcasts into one chart. To producers, the chart is an indicator for foreign fans to see which K-pop star is taking the lead for the week.

Teens in Malaysia were recently reported to gather at a friend’s place that has the satellite platform ‘ASTRO’ installed to watch “Music Bank” live.

While “1 Night 2 Days” boasts the highest viewer ratings in all of KBS’s programs, the show actually takes a back seat internationally. Shows that feature idols like “Music Bank”, “Invincible Youth“, and “100 Points out of 100” garner much higher viewer ratings amongst the international viewers.

KBS World airs their programs one to two weeks after the initial air date in order to include English subtitles, but because “Music Bank” is live, the show gets broadcast raw. Even so, the show still achieves the highest viewer ratings. As of recent, producers have taken to translating song titles as a nod of acknowledgement to their international viewers.

“Music Bank” won’t be stopping just there, though. They’re set on bringing K-pop to Europe and the rest of the world, and are said to be actively working on a variety of promotions to help spread the Hallyu wave. Starting with Japan on July 13th, “Music Bank” will be bringing K-pop stars straight into different locations like Hong Kong, and even Europe next year, to begin broadcasting live from there.

2PM & Eunjung for ‘Look Optical’

The beastly 2PM boys and T-ara’s Eunjung recently unearthed their stylish inner geeks for a Look Optical CF.

The TV ad begins with Nichkhun fretting over his first date with Eunjung.

He then proceeds to choose the appropriate ‘face’ for the date and wears an appealing pair of glasses. According to the boys, ‘a pair of glasses make up the face’.

The CF definitely hammers home the message, ‘Be sure to lock down the right first impression on your very first date by wearing the ‘right’ pair of glasses’.

T-ara’s Jiyeon, Hyomin, and Eunjung to visit a cemetery

T-ara’s Jiyeon, Hyomin, and Eunjung are setting out to visit a cemetery.

Jiyeon and Eunjung have starred in “Death Bell 2” and “White” respectively; both of which are scary movies. Hyomin has just been cast for an upcoming horror film, titled “Gisaeng Ryeong“, as Yurin.

The two are going with her to a cemetery to experience something scary and earn a new experience. They said, “You can feel the creepiness at the set of a horror film. You have to endure the horror. If you experience a lot of horror things before filming, it would help.

Hyomin realized she needed the experience, and the three of them have decided to go on this scary journey. The movie that Hyomin is starring in is about a child who died unjustly and goes into other people’s bodies to take revenge. Hyomin will be playing the girl who figures the mystery out, and the film will be released in August.
