’2011 Melon Music Awards’ reveals list of Top 10 artists

The 2011 Melon Music Awards‘ launched its first round of online votes back in October, asking netizens to narrow down Melon’s list of 30 nominees to 10. Votes flooded in from October 27th to November 6th, and on the 7th, Melon revealed which 10 artists made the cut.

The music site announced that 2011′s Top 10 artists were Super Junior, IU, f(x), 2NE1, Leessang,Park Jung Hyun, B2ST, Big Bang, SECRET, and SISTAR. Results were determined by a combination of album sales scores (80%) and online votes (20%).

This year’s Top 10 list included some surprises. While the expected idol champions made the list, many were surprised to see the names of Park Jung Hyun (a star from MBC‘s ‘I Am a Singer’) and hip hop duo Leessang.

Melon kicked off its second round of votes on November 7th to determine the ultimate top artist. Results from the second round will be revealed at the awards ceremony on November 24th at the Seoul Olympic Stadium.

Pak Gyuri successfully ended musical "Pounds Beauty"


Kara's agency, DSP announced on November 7, that Pounds Beauty musical in Japan was successfully concluded. The musical started is Osaka on October and was performed 10 times in Japan with sell out status.

The performance of Pounds Beauty in Japan, which is the 1st musical challenge for Park Gyuri, started with a sold out show. More than 90% of the seats were taken.

Even the curtain calls have to be conducted four times instead of one due to unstoppable applause and encore requests from audience. They even received standing ovation.

Pounds Beauty became a box office hit when it was performed back in 2001.

The musical featured idol members like Park Gyuri, Supernova's Sung Je and Bada. It attracted interest even before it begins on stage.

T-ara to make early ‘Music Bank’ comeback next week with new concept

Girl group T-ara will be making a comeback on November 18th through KBS 2TVMusic Bank‘!

Originally, the girls’ comeback date was set to be on November 25th, but the wait has been shortened to November 18th. T-ara will return to the stage with their new track, “Cry Cry“.

Core Contents Media explained, “We were planning to release “Cry-Cry” and “Lovey-Dovey” at the same time, but the two songs have completely different concepts from each other. We feared that the public would become confused and therefore, decided to delay “Lovey-Dovey” to next month.”

The label company also shared that T-ara will be throwing away their cute side, shown in “Roly Poly” and will be revealing a new concept that is much more charismatic and tough.

f(x)’s Krystal didn’t know about Leeteuk’s marriage

On November 5th, tv viewers saw Super Junior‘s leader, Leeteuk making a surprise visit to his wife’s (Kang Sora) drama shooting set on MBC’sWe Got Married‘.

Before arriving at the location, the idol made a quick call to f(x)‘s Krystal who was well asleep at the time. Leeteuk asked several questions to his labelmate including, “What do you think about me going to the shooting set? Should I bring something to eat?” and “Just visiting, would really brighten things up, right?

Krystal, who thought Leeteuk was talking about her filming set, was utterly shocked to hear that he was actually visiting his wife’s drama set. F(x)’s maknae immediately questioned with, “Who did you marry?” followed by an awkward silence that made Leeteuk laugh.

The Super Junior leader also called fellow member, Shindong to ask for further advice. The comic idol made a funny remark with, “Go and hand out energy drinks to the staff” and “Stop using your members and don’t call us“.

SBS airs the ’2011 K-Pop Super Concert’ held in Busan

On November 6th, in addition to airing the ‘2011 Love Sharing Concert‘, SBS also broadcast the ‘2011 K-pop Super Concert‘. Hosted by Ha Ji Won and Kim Hyun Joong the show had many great performances by some of today’s hottest stars. In fact, both hosts also performed during the show.

Held in Busan on October 28th, a total of 12 teams performed including: Big Bang‘s Taeyang, Seungri, and T.O.P, KARA, SHINee, as well as T-ara, U-KISS, Jay Park, Se7en, SISTAR, Psy, ZE:A, and the debut performance of rookie group Double A. Unfortunately, due to scheduling conflictswith her Japanese musical, ‘200 Pounds Beauty‘, Gyuri did not perform with KARA.
