RELIVE IT: KBS New York Korea Festival brings K-Pop to New Jersey!

Hanbok-clad musicians, free Shin Ramyun and K-pop idols — the KBS New York Korea Festivalhad it all this weekend! Running through the weekend of October 8th and 9th at Overpeck Park in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey, the New York Korean Festival attracted K-Pop lovers from all over the East Coast (and even some who flew in from the West coast!). Booths lined the perimeter of the grassy park, offering Korean delicacies, K-pop shirts and other merchandise; it was a cultural mecca for all those who wanted to learn more about the Korean culture while enjoying performances from their favorite K-Pop artists.

After hosting a hugely successful booth at the Korean Music Festival in Los Angeles a few months ago, we teamed up with SK Planet to throw a second event at the KBS festival. This time, we had double the number of prizes and giveaways for an epic two-day event!

The sunny afternoons were filled with song and dance cover contests as well as cameos from celebrities like Decipher, who autographed free albums for fans. Everyone who dropped by the booth also had the exclusive chance to sign up for the upcoming international release of Starcall, a free smartphone app that allows fans to directly receive video messages from K-Pop celebrities in real time.

As dusk began to settle in on Sunday, scores of attendees began to flock toward the main stage en masse in anticipation for the concert to begin. Those who were lucky got to sit in the fenced general admission and VIP sections; others got to spread a blanket on the grass and scream for their idols, as performances flashed across huge broadcast screens.

The night saw performances from a star-studded lineup comprised of idols TVXQ, 2PM, 4minute,B2ST, G.NA, SISTAR, SHINee and Kim Tae Woo. With legendary singers like Insooni and Jang Sa Ik also making an appearance, there was something for everyone to enjoy, from young fangirls to older generations.

4minute Kwon Sohyun's Storm Like Growth

Female group 4minute's youngest Kwon Sohyun took off her 'maknae' title and showed a 'storm-like growth'.

She uploaded a photo on her own Twitter account on 11th October (dawn) with a caption, "At MTV, same as always, right?" We can see her standing in front of a bat-shaped decoration wall, while spreading both hands over her head, and opening her mouth.

The photo received some special attention because she took off her 'maknae' title and showed a mature femininity. She used an all-black tight tee and hot pants. She showed a slim waist line and straight long legs. Before, she showed us a cute and small image. But in this photo, we could see another feeling because of her sexiness and femininity. She showed the rebellion of a maknae through this 'storm-like growth' photo.

Netizens showed some feedback like, "I think she is growing taller these days", "This is indeed a storm-like growth", "She's not maknae Kwon Sohyun anymore", "How could a body look that beautiful?", etc.

Meanwhile, 4minute went to New York on 7th October for 29th NY-Korea Festival on 8~9th October. She uploaded some photos of their daily life there and attracted some attention.

Singer G.NA revealed a photo of her together with 4minute's Nam Jihyun.

She uploaded the photo on her Twitter account on 9th October with a caption, "Leader Nam to the Ji Ji Ji and I. We were waiting on line and she keeps on working hard on her 'A Thousand Kisses' script. You're amazing! Let's catch the weekend drama live!"

We can see G.NA and Nam Jihyun posing side by side with their sunglasses. They attract attention for their superior appearance and sister-like appearance (because of their similar hairstyle).

Netizens saw the photo and showed some feedback, 'Both of you are really pretty', 'You guys look friendly like a real sister', 'Both of you look good with sunglasses', etc.

4minute's Hyunah's Last Stage of Bubble Pop

Hyunah, a member of girl group 4minute, showed her sorrow on performing the last stage of 'Bubble Pop'.

Hyunah showed a performance of her solo song 'Bubble Pop' on tvN 'Show Show Show' on 9th October, which is her last stage.

She planned to appeal to everyone in a large venue, with the help of a large balloon. She catches the viewers' hearts with her fresh outfit and musical-like choreography.

Other than her performance, Son Hoyoung also performed a rock version of 'To Mother' in the show. He threw away his tender image and showed a powerful performance. It's stimulating the curiosity of fans.

Meanwhile, 'Show Show Show' is a large show that showed some combined performance of song/dance/gag that could only be seen in large year en shows or concerts. The show will air on 9th October at 10PM.

Girl group KARA will soon be making their comeback to Japan with their new single, “Winter Magic“. To boost anticipation, Universal Music Japan unveiled a preview of their new PV!

To match the theme of ‘winter’, the girls filmed on a white-themed set that emphasized a sense of innocence. The girls aim to show a more gentle charisma this time around to match the ‘pure’ feel of the song.

4minute‘s Sohyun shared a photo of the group in New York recently.

Sohyun tweeted, “4minute at MTV in New York. It was a really fun performance.” 4minute traveled to New York on October 9th to participate in the “New York-Korea Festival” with other artists includingTVXQ, 2PM, B2ST and SISTAR.

T-ara's Hyomin "My first time an innocent concept"!

Hyomin from girl group T-ara transformed into an Innocent Autumn Goddess.

Hyomin showed her charming and girly look for the latest edition of Star Style Magazine 'High Cut'.

A deep gazes, and less make-up instead of her usual smokey eye-look. She showed an innocence side of her, that is hard to see in her usual days.

Hyomin said, "This is my first time taking on such a clean concept after my debut. This is a radical photoshoot."

The photographer for this shoot evaluated, "Her innocent and lovely image was transferred straight to the camera. That kind of image was always hidden behind her thick eyeliner. The photoshoot brought a new atmosphere."

Does David Oh have a crush on KARA’s Nicole?

On October 8th, singer David Oh had a fan meeting at the Hongdae Rolling Hall in Mapo, Seoul. During the event, the singer was asked what his ideal type would be like. David responded with, “My ideal type changes frequently.”

He cautiously continued, “However, I do like women with bobbed hairstyles.” Guest Noh Ji Hoon, who accompanied David, candidly revealed, “He likes KARA‘s Nicole.” David was startled by Ji Hoon’s unpredicted response and quickly explained, “I like cute girls.” Uncharmed, the MC immediately replied, “Which still means that you like Nicole.”

As the fan meeting progressed, Noh Ji Hoon complimented David by saying, “He’s a really innocent and kind guy” to which David responded, “Ji Hoon is really cool hyung, but he does have that bad guy aura.”

Lastly, Noh Ji Hoon finished off the meeting with, “David is practicing really hard. He’s going to show a new side to himself that will blow you away, so please anticipate his upcoming work.”
