KARA becomes the third K-pop group to sell over a million singles in Japan

KARA has been named the third K-pop act following BoA and TVXQ to sell over one million singles in Japan!

The girls’ sixth Japanese single, ‘Speed Up/Girls Power‘, which was released back on March 21st, recorded 155,117 units in sales, bringing their total singles sales including all six singles to a grand number of 1,000,999 units. This record was achieved just a year and 11 months into their debut.

Thus far, the only K-pop artists to have achieved this feat include BoA and TVXQ, so KARA has definitely cemented themselves as one of the leaders of the Hallyu Wave with this achievement.

Taking a closer look at the numbers truly shows how much power KARA holds, as out of the three, KARA took the shortest amount of time to achieve the same record. BoA took two years and 10 singles to hit the one million mark, while TVXQ took three years, seven months and 24 singles to hit a million. BoA and TVXQ definitely paved the way with their hard work, though, so KARA should be proud of the efforts they’ve added.

Girls’ Generation, who advanced into Japan at a similar time, is trailing behind KARA with four singles and 569,896 units in sales as of July 2nd.

KARA is currently preparing for their Asia tour for the rest of the year along with their Korean comeback.

Hyomin self-promotes T-ara’s upcoming activities

With T-ara‘s comeback in full swing, Hyomin has set out to promote the group’s activities in her latest Twitter update.

On the afternoon of July 4th, she tweeted, “It’s not an exciting or bright song fit for the summer, but we’ll be making our comeback this week with ‘Day by Day‘, a song perfect for the monsoon season coming up. Our stage won’t go overboard this time so please don’t worry. On Friday, we have an appearance on ‘Star Life Theater‘ lined up followed by ‘Music Core‘ on Saturday! Done with our self-promotion.”

Attached to the tweet was a sel-ca of Hyomin holding up a movie slate with ‘Star Life Theater’ and the broadcast duration written on it. Considering T-ara’s busy schedule, the tweet must serve as a nice reminder for fans looking to keep up with the girls through it all.

Super Junior holds press conference for "Sexy, Free & Single"

Super Junior is still going strong though this year marks their 8th anniversary as a group.

Super Junior held a press conference for their new 6th album “Sexy, Free & Single” on July 3rd at 11 AM at the Imperial Palace Hotel in Nonhyun-dong of Seoul.

Leeteuk was asked about how the group was number one on the Taiwanese music charts for 100 weeks. The leader answered, “We heard that it’s quite a feat even from the locals there. We’re wondering if we’re worthy of receiving such love for so long. Even among us we’re curious about such a record. Thank you so much for your love and support. We hope you’ll support us on our new release “Sexy, Free & Single” as well. We want to go see our Taiwanese fans soon.”

Super Junior’s “Bonamana” off of their 4th album in 2010 topped the chart in Taiwan starting in June and lasted for 63 weeks at number one until August of 2011. Then, their title song “Mr. Simple” from their 5th album replaced “Bonamana” as number one for another 64 straight

weeks, giving them the record of 100 straight weeks at the top spot.

Their new album is the first release in 11 months and will feature the return of Kang-in since he has recently completed his military service. The title song “Sexy, Free & Single” is described to showcase a Super Junior-esque rhythm and an addictive chorus.

There’s also a song to show their fans (ELFs) their gratitude for sticking with them for the past 8 years. The song is titled “From U”. It’s about the relationship between a star and celebrity, where though there are rough patches, the love for each other is always there.

Super Junior will make their official TV comeback on M! Countdown on July 5th.
