2PM aiming for the representative Kpop male group title chasing after TVXQ's popularity in Japan!

2PM is vigorously flying up high in Japan, chasing after TVXQ's popularity.

2PM's new Japanese single that has been released on the 6th has become a hot topic after retaining 2nd place on the Oricon daily charts for 2 days in a row. According to the Oricon ranking, 73,529 copies of 2PM's new release were sold on the first day, and with the 20,246 copies sold on the second day it adds up to 93,775 copies sold in just two days.

Even though it was impossible to overtake the Japanese national boyband Arashi that placed first, sales that are close to 100,000 copies are impressive enough to take no. 1 spot as well, and such good results show that 2PM is already a well-versed player in the Japanese music market.

A person concerned hinted that "with this result 2PM is showing signs of becoming the K-pop male group representatives in Japan, and perhaps succeeding in the levels of popularity such icon as TVXQ."

After TVXQ the K-pop fever in Japan was lead by such girl groups as Girls' Generation and Kara. On the other hand boy band popularity compared to the girl groups seemed to have diminished. However, 2PM has appealed to the Japanese audiences and stolen hearts of the female fans with their "beastly" image, that is rare to see in Japan; and with the sales levels that are on a par with those of Girls' Generation or Kara, they are now standing strong as the representative of K-pop male groups.

2PM's popularity was proven when they sold out tickets to the 6-day-long consecutive performances (held by a Korean group for the first time) on weekdays at the so-called "concert Mecca" Budokan, at the end of last month right before the release of their new single.

They have a particularly brisk local schedule, and at the moment 2PM's popularity in Japan seems to be on the rise. 2PM together with 2AM met their fans on the 7th at the Tokyo Toho Cinema in Roppongi, at the premiere opening of the documentary film "Beyond the Oneday - Story of 2PM & 2AM". The movie starring the two groups will be released nationwide in Japan on the 30th of June.

Apart from this, in order to celebrate the release of the new single 2PM is holding events for the fans on the 9th in Osaka and on the 16th in Tokyo. Due to their increasing popularity, 2PM's Japanese schedule would be busy enough even for 2 teams.
