The Korean American Globalization Committee of Eastern US has officially announced the new date for NYC’s second annual Korea Day! The date has been modified to AUGUST 16 2011, from the original date of July 29th. The date has been postponed in order to better accommodate the activities and dining for this ongoing heat wave. We apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused the public, but please note that the location, menu and festivities have not been changed.
With the help and support of the Korean Cultural Service NY and many Korean restaurant businesses in the local area, Korea Day aims to share our native Korean culture with New Yorkers in the heart of Central Park.
The festivities will be the same as planned prior; the event will begin at 11am and end around 7pm, and it will be filled with live outdoor performances and plenty of good eats. The announced K-pop contest will be adjusted according to the new schedule as well.
In order to promote Korean culture and more specifically, Korean food – the KCSNY have decided on traditional Korean dishes such as Bulgogi, Daegi Bulgogi, lettuce wraps, Kimchi, Korean pancakes, Japchae, Ddukboki, and Bibimbap to serve at the event. They hope that the NYC public will gain a better understanding of Korean culture when they see the complexity of the dishes.
In order to allow the attendees to fully experience how Korean food is prepared, there will be different booths set up at the event. One will be making fresh rice-cakes, another will be making kimchi from scratch, and a large vat of bibimbap will be mixed on-site. There will also be a booth set up with basic information on Korean food, as well as the standard sauces and ingredients that go into preparing Korean food.
To open and end the cultural performances, KCSNY has invited from Korea the band ‘Sorea‘, who specialize in performing traditional Korean music, and best known for their K-Pop covers, particularly,SNSD’s Gee.
In addition, the classical orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of CAMERATA Virtuosi NJ, will also be in attendance. Cultural booths will also be set up so that attendees can also try on traditional Korean clothing (hanbok).
Furthermore, the Korean Cultural Services NY (KCSNY director Woo Sung Lee) in collaboration with NJ based, Korean pop culture news website allkpop.com (6Theory Media CEO Johnny Noh) will host the first New York K-POP Contest. Of the many contestants that have auditioned online, the eight teams that have made it to the finals will be performing live at the event on August 16th. The single winner of the contest will receive a round-trip ticket to Korea (sponsored by Asiana Airlines), as well as be able to participate in the ‘Worldwide KPOP Contest” taking place in Korea on November 26, 2011.
WE HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL THERE!
