On October 19th, hundreds of people gathered at Incheon Airport
in front of the 3rd floor exit, all with cameras in hand. The reason? They were crowding to catch a glimpse of T-ara, CNBlue, and miss A,all gathered in one spot.
The singers came together to shoot the teaser video for Mnet’s year-end awards ceremony, the ‘2010 MAMA‘ (or ‘Mnet Asia Music Awards’). Footage was shot of the artists leaving for Macau, with particular attention being focused on Miss A’s Suzy. The MAMA teaser was broadcasted on the 22nd through Mnet’s popular program, “Superstar K2.”
The idols showed off unique styles, even though they were just going through the airport, making the entire process seem much like a fashion show. Unlike their usual matching stage outfits, the members were able to coordinate according to their own tastes.
Seo In Young and Suzy both wore black but chose to highlight different points: Suzy’s flowing one-piece gave her a girlish and innocent charm, while Seo In Young’s outfit emphasized her chic image.
2PM opted for a more comfortable and casual look as they all dressed in black-toned outfits. Nichkhun, however, stood out from his bandmates with his fitted red hat and blue jacket – many have compared him to iconic video game character, ‘Super Mario’. Meanwhile, Ok Taecyeon emphasized his manly image with a tough leather jacket.
Many noticed the female idols whipping out handheld mirrors, thus earning them the moniker ‘mirror princesses’.
With all of the top idols gathered in one place, there was an obvious air of competition amongst the members to look their best. Throughout the filming, the ladies were busy fixing up their makeup and smoothing out their clothes, making sure that they looked truly picture-perfect.
But what about the gents?
Instead of mirrors, the members of CNBlue coveted hairspray to ensure that their hairstyles was kept in place. Jung Yonghwa especially endeared himself to the audience with his use of a plastic cover to prevent the hairspray from getting into his eyes.
Since it was a teaser promoting a music awards ceremony, the idols were shown busily dancing to… nothing. Since an airport is a public space, music wasn’t allowed to be played, forcing the idols to dance without any background music at all.
T-ara’s Eunjung and Soyeon showed off sexy dance moves without any regard for the silence, while Supreme Team’s Simon D danced with Suzy, clapping his hands in order to create a beat.
2PM members was just as active, despite the filming going well past midnight. Junho played the role of a DJ and began messing with the turntables.
The participation of ‘Superstar K ‘contestants Huh Gak and John Park also caught the attention of many, as the two were invited to perform on stage for the MAMA in Macau.
Because they both could only exhibit their professional sides on ‘Superstar K’, they acted rather awkward and out of place on set – most likely due to their inexperience in front of the camera.
Their outfits were also self-styled: John Park’s patterned muffler and cardigan gave him a trendy look, while Huh Gak looked sporty in his comfortable jacket.
